Today February 2nd, 2011 at 11:28 PKT (Pakistan Standard Time)
It is the first over 8,000m to be climbed in Karakorum in the winter Season.
The team is now descending from the top towards Camp 3.
In a Sat Phone call from the top Simone said “It has been very hard, but the three of us feel well“.

This is Simone’s third 8,000m winter ascent: Shisha Pangma (2005), Makalu (2009), Gasherbrum II (2011)
This is Denis’ second 8.000m winter ascent: Makalu (2009), Gasherbrum II (2011)

Cory Richards is the first American to summit an 8,000 metres peak in winter.
The team will take approximately 2 days to climb back down to base camp.
Pictures from the summit will be available as soon as they’ll be back at Base Camp

Congratulations to reach the top!!!!

Posted by Muhammad Iqbal Asko | February 3, 2011, 7:21 pmit’s not first winter season ascent over 8000m in karakorum!!! first one was made by Maciej Berbeka on Rocky Summit (8028 m n.p.m.) in 1988 on polish BroadPeak winter exepdition.
GREAT CONGRATULATIONS FOR YOU GUYS.
Besides
Posted by Karol | February 2, 2011, 1:25 pmwhy you want to make polemics. You exactly know that the fore-summit, or also called false summit from Broad Peak doesn’t count as summit from the 14th highest mountains. Also one http://www.polishwinterhimalaism.com is not in the 8000 summit list…….
they where just great and they climbed the first 8000 m peak in Pakistan.
Just congratulate and wish the polish team that they will also succeed on Broad Peak this winter!
no polemics!!!!!
